Musical Theater Master Class and Open House Reception
Chuck Hoenes, co-founder of Rockford Dance Company will return to teach a Musical Theater Master Class on Sunday, March 15th  from 1:30 to 3:00. Mr. Hoenes was a leader in dance in the Rockford area for many years. Before coming to Rockford, Mr. Hoenes choreographed for such legends as Carol Lawrence, Ann Miller, Sammy Davis Jr. and Sophie Tucker.

Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest Winners!
Two area high school students will represent Northern Illinois in the State Poetry Out Loud Competition that will be held in Springfield on March 10. Beth Hopkins of Spectrum International Preparatory High School of won the regional competition held on February 12 Alex Peterson also of Spectrum was the first runner-up and Johnny Cooper of Auburn High School is the alternate.

Main Street Players will hold auditions for its spring production, “Murder by Natural Causes,” which is based on a TV movie starring Hal Holbrook in which a young wife and her boyfriend (and perhaps others) plot to murder her husband who is a world renown mind reader.

Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center is pleased to present Ravinia’s Steans Institute for Young Artists in a lecture/demonstration and concert.  These young musicians will present the free lecture/demonstration on Friday, March 20th, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Rockford College’s Maddox Theatre and then perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Court Street United Methodist Church.

Rock River Chapter Encourages Area Artists to Submit Their Designs
In conjunction with the Rock River Chapter’s signature fundraiser, Rock’n for the Red, the local Red Cross is holding a design contest. Area artists 16 and older are eligible to submit their rendition of a “rock’n” design to be used for the event’s submission buttons, promotional posters, and t-shirts.
