Dine in Mexico Without Leaving Rockford

If you're wishing for a trip to Mexico, but the money or time is standing in your way, perhaps a trek to 3725 East State Street (across from the Driver's License Bureau) might be the answer. That's where you'll find San Jose Taqueria. The atmosphere and authentic cuisine will definitely provide a taste of that land south of the border.

Haunted Rockford
With Halloween upon us, many people turn to watching monster movies, and others tell ghost stories. Often times these stories are passed on from generation to generation. Whether there is truth to them is really not for us to guess, but rather we should enjoy the story. > More

Nestled adjacent to the grounds of the Poplar Grove Airport, the Vintage Wings and Wheels Museum is built on 11.5 acres. The facility at present consists of four buildings built in 1938 or earlier. These are not reproductions, but actual buildings moved to the site then reassembled and renovated. Alice Cooper holds court at Beloit Riverfest
School might be "out forever," but the Godfather of Goth is still definitely "in." Alice Cooper kicked off the first show of his American tour at Beloit Riverfest Friday, July 9th. In attendance were original hard rock fans and a whole new generation of faithful followers, clad in the Halloweenish black leather regalia that earned Cooper's theatrics world recognition nearly 40 years ago. Parents assembled onto Riverfest grounds with their kids, youths who had donned Alice Cooper apparel themselves. Their homage to previous tours is a sure sign that the rocker hasn't lost his magic touch. > More

Chubby Rain House of Tunes is located in Poplar Grove, Illinois, near Belvidere. While you might have to make your way past some cornfields to get there, it's large dance floor and killer stage (not to mention solid entertainment) should be well worth the trip. > More

The Girl's Gone Wild - Odessa Barmore
Martina McBride's hit tune "When God-Fearin' Women Get The Blues" stands as a tribute to all those country gals who are "frying their last batch of gravy." It wasn't too long ago that mild-mannered library clerk Odessa Barmore also "got the blues." Although she hasn't sworn off cooking, working as a precinct committeeman, or her job at Rockford Public Library, this sweet petite has definitely gone a bit wild. > More
