Chicago combo Cameron McGill & What Army will perform  at Kryptonite on April 10th and Dekalb's House Cafe April 14th (part of a month-long tour of the Midwest, Plains and Rockies) for a night of soulful folk-pop and plush, rootsy rock, with a hint of winsome psychedelia. warm songs for cold shoulders is the kind of record we hoped Cameron McGill would make for his Parasol debut; the songs are stripped down and the stories laid bare. Most of the album's songs were learned in the studio, and cut shortly thereafter. The songs show a similar vulnerability evident in many of McGill's recordings, though here he returns to the thoughtful folk musings he has made his signature. There is always enough pop to make the songs memorable, but this album deals a weightier hand than his last, the self-released Hold On Beauty. There is immediacy to these recordings, and the subtle instrumentation allows for the lyrics and vocals (duets with Those Transatlantics' Kathleen Bracken, think Gram & Emmylou) to take front and center. A brooding cast of characters joins McGill: Noah Harris of Elanors, Daniel McMahon of Corey Chisel & The Wandering Sons, Rodrigo Palma of Judah Johnson and Darren Garvey of Andreas Kapsalis Trio.

Cameron McGill has been steadily self-releasing records for the last five years. His most recent, warm songs for cold shoulders, follows Stories of The Knife & The Back (2004), Street Ballads & Murderesques (2006), and Hold On Beauty (2008). Originally from Champaign, IL, McGill has lived in Chicago for the last ten years, touring extensively throughout the states, both as a solo artist and with his band, Cameron McGill & What Army.  In the last year, McGill was featured on Margot & the Nuclear So and So's album, Animal!, Rachael Yamagata's Elephants...Teeth Sinking Into Heart, as well as Cory Chisel's Cabin Ghosts EP and DVD.  High profile shows at last year's SXSW and Monolith Festival, bookended a year of steady touring. McGill is currently at work on his next album, a group of songs accompanied by classical string arrangements, as well as playing keys in a new band with Margot's Richard Edwards.
