On June 28th Devon Allman’s Honey Tribe will be hitting the Rockford area as one of the support acts for Dicky Betts and Great Southern at Stars and Guitars Rib Fest. That seems as good a reason as any – and as good as this album is we don’t really need an excuse – to take a look at the group’s CD.

Released in 2006 this album shows Devon Allman carrying on the family tradition (he is Gregg Allman’s son) by delivering some extremely tasty classic rock. In fact, the disc is so set in that tradition that one might mistakenly believe it’s a vintage release from the mid-1970’s. They do it as well as anyone and there isn’t weak song on show here.

Of course, as one might expect, there are definite traces of The Allman Brothers present. But the group doesn’t stop there. You might also pick up on Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, B. B. King, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, ZZ Top and others here. That’s a pretty respectable musical piece of pie. They even cover a Bob Marley song, but take the majority of the reggae from the mix on their rendering. No matter what you call it or how you slice it, this is a great album. I highly recommend picking it up in time to get familiar with it before the show. If you are a fan of classic rock you will definitely love this disc.
