Musician's Corner: Backstage Pass
Most fans of music out there would probably be disappointed to know that backstage at any kind of live music event, whether it's rock, rap, or reggae...is not all sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll. We all know the folklore, and I think, for some reason like to believe the myths that surround this mysterious and sometimes surreal backstage world... > More

Dear Sarah
The indications are very strong that we shall move in a few days - perhaps tomorrow. And lest I should not be able to write you again I feel impelled to write a few lines that may fall under your eye when I am no more. > More

There's a 'Red Super Giant' Coming Over the Hill…
Let's hope that on the other side of that proverbial hill isn't early retirement…according to the band "there is no force in nature greater than the urge to make music." Hopefully this is still the case when local band Red Super Giant (RSG) take to the road this coming year. That is, the road between Rockford and Iowa City, Iowa. > More

"Lay the willow on that onion!"
Baseball. A warm summer's day in the stands with a cold drink and a "red hot"watching your favorite team going for a win, this is a little slice of heaven for those die hard "kranks" (baseball fans). Yet very few in the Northern Illinois area know of the impact this area has had on our "National Pastime." > More

Burnin' Up the Fifth Alarm Firehouse Pub
It was a cool Saturday night in downtown Byron, but it was blazin' hot at the Fifth Alarm Firehouse Pub because Agnus Jackson was on the stage. This trio was rockin' the house with a mixture of high-energy rock and blues. > More

"With a Capital 'B' and That Rhymes With 'P' and That Stands For 'Pool'"
"State and Madison." For those that have spent their lives here in "River City," just hearing that simple phrase brings back numerous fond memories. The soda shop, the night club, the bowling alley, the former Irish Rose location, and of course the billiard room bring on a smile as part of those recollections. > More

Paul Harvey Oswald -- The Myth behind the Man.
Who is Paul Harvey Oswald (PHO)? The truth is, he is not a person at all. The question should actually be; what is PHO? It seems as if there is as much a mystique about the name as there is about what PHO does. > More

Verne Smith is Rockford's version of Dick Clark...He is officially immortalized as Rockford's (first ever) Number One Music Fan (2000 RAMI Awards). He's innocent like a child, yet wise to the ways of Rock & Roll. Mix a shot of "Jack," a cold beer, a cigar, with live music-- and his pulse lunges into full gear. > More

The Front Burner 2002
Every January for the past five or six years I have compiled a list of favorite recordings for the previous year, created an accompanying "sampler" mix CD, and foisted the whole package upon unsuspecting friends. The intention is not for it to be a "best of" list because I don't think that I am qualified to determine what music is better than the rest. I do know what appeals to me, though, and that is what drives these "Front Burner" lists and mixes. > More
