Friends and family of Rockford area musician and teacher Carmen Pursley will host a memorial concert in celebration of her life. The concert will take place on Saturday, April 19th, 2008 at the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center. A reception will be held in the center’s Reitsch Room following the concert.
Ms. Pursley taught violin within the Rockford school system for many years and maintained a private violin studio for most of her life. Throughout her career, she performed with several local music organizations, including the Rockford Symphony Chamber Orchestra, the Woodstock Mozart Festival, the Riverside String Quartet and the Tiffany Trio. She was a performing artist of the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center for over twenty years and a member of the board of directors. She also received the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center’s Mary Chaney Clark Award and Starr of Excellence Award, as well as a RAMI Lifetime Achievement Award.
