For the first time, art lovers will place silent auction bids electronically on paintings displayed at the 2007 Doors of Rockford Art Show and Auction. The sixth annual event will be held Saturday, October 20 from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Burpee Museum of Natural History, 737 North Main Street.
Featured are 24 original works of art that focus on doorways with the theme, “Along the Rock.” Recognized as one of the area’s finest art venues, Doors of Rockford features a variety of local artists, including Jeanne Coe and Judy Moyer. The new computerized bidding process will allow attendees to place bids at stations throughout the venue, and to track their bids in real time by viewing totals projected on the wall. The system will also better control closing time and final tallies, assuring bidders of accurate results.
Tom Heflin, renowned local artist and juror for the Doors paintings, has selected seven paintings to receive Awards of Merit and the best painting to receive the National City Award of Excellence. All eight winners will be featured on note cards and posters available for purchase both at the event and later at locations throughout the community. Attendees also vote for the People’s Choice Award, which includes a $250 prize from the Rockford Area Arts Council. All paintings are available for preview by visiting www.ziondevelopment.com and clicking the “Events” link.
Live music from the Dan Voll Latin Jazz Trio and a delicious array of complimentary hors d’oeuvres will treat attendees to an evening rich in sights, sounds and flavors. Admission is $15 per person, payable at the door without prior reservations.
Funds raised at the Doors of Rockford Art Show and Auction help ZION Development Corporation operate its many projects and programs benefiting people who live, work and worship in the Mid Town District. Participating artists enjoy an exciting venue to showcase their talents, are guaranteed a minimum cash payment by patron sponsors, and in some cases a percentage of the auction price. All paintings are initially priced at $50, and some final auction prices may exceed $500. Area art enthusiasts enjoy the opportunity to view and purchase high quality, original works of art that feature inspiring images of our community.
