The BASEMENT BLUES BAND is one of Rockford, Illinois' premiere blues bands. The band consists of Bob Schmidt on drums, Paul Klukken on harmonica, Steve "Spider" Leigh on guitar, and Rich Gordon on bass.

Formed in 1983, the BASEMENT BLUES BAND is currently one of Rockford's most established blues groups. With a strong guitar attack and harp, the band carries on the tradition of the Chicago Style Blues. Covering classic blues as well as blues/rock, the band's influences are clearly noted. From the Paul Butterfield Blues Band to the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, the BASEMENT BLUES BAND has roots in the modern blues tradition. The year 2003 marks their 20th year as a performing blues band.

The BASEMENT BLUES BAND has participated in the following; On the Waterfront in Rockford, Illinois, The Mississippi Valley Bluesfest in Davenport, Iowa., and the Greenwich Village Art Fair in Rockford as well as several local outdoor festivals. The BASEMENT BLUES BAND has played such Midwest clubs as the Big Cities Lounge, the Two Wheel Inn, the Victory Tap, The Sahara Club, LT's, Sports Page, 505 Club, and Grant Park Tap in Rockford. The band has played Stickman's and Ribco's in the Quad Cities, and the Silver Moon Oasis and Eatery in Darien, Wisconsin.

The BASEMENT BLUES BAND provided backup for West Coast blues artists, Michael "Hawkeye" Herman and "Cool Papa" Sadler on one of their most recent Midwestern tours. The BASEMENT BLUES BAND also opened the Recycled Blues Revue Show at the Rockford Metro Centre in December, 1990.

The BASEMENT BLUES BAND has shared the stage with such blues luminaries as Howard and the White Boys, Sugar Blue, Sonny Boy Williamson, Jr., Jimmy Johnson, Chris Cain, Jim Schwall, Joe Louis Walker, Duke Tumatoe and the Power Trio, and Lonnie Brooks.

The band has won two Rockford Area Music Industry (RAMI) awards in 1992 and 1998. The group won the "People's Choice" award at the 1999, 2000, and 2001 Rockford River District's Groovewalks. This earned them headlining spots in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 for the Rockford On The Waterfront festivals.
