Take The Dog For a Drive - At The Lion's Den
by Gary Hill

The Lion's Den at Rockford College isn't exactly the kind of place that first pops into your head when you think of a venue to go check out hot up and coming rockers well on their climb to the stars. On the 18th of the month, though, that's just exactly the kind of entertainment that will be taking the stage there. That's when The Dog & Everything and Quietdrive will be appearing there, and both bands are Midwest outfits who have been working their way into the hearts and minds of music fans all over the country.

The Dog & Everything may be based in Chicago, but don't even think for a minute that they are just a northern Illinois act.  Since their first album came out in 2001 they have been exciting critics and fans all over the country. Yes, they have a large following in this area, but they also have been entertaining audiences from coast to coast. In fact, they were one of the acts to appear on the Warped Tour of last year. With over 13,000 sales of their two independent released CD's it's obvious that this group is on its way to the top. Their take on melodic rock with an alternative bent is definitely getting a lot of attention for the group, as is their potent live presence.

Quietdrive calls Minneapolis their home. Unlike the other group, though, they are signed to one of the majors, Epic Records to be exact. The band puts out a particularly entertaining alt rock sound that doesn't fall too far from the emo tree at times.  Still, it's easy to see that they are not restricted by such pigeonholes, either. These guys rock in their own style, and do it well. This fact shows through both on their debut EP and in their live shows.

It's not often you get the chance to see two powerful acts like The Dog & Everything and Quietdrive at the same gig.  It's also always a memorable experience to see an act who is destined for greatness when they are on their way there. Add to that the idea of having both of those experiences in an intimate venue like The Lion's Den and it becomes obvious just how special this one night will be.
