If you heard the name, but not the music you may tend to think these three guys were an in-your-face metal band that plays ear numbing power chords with screaming lyrics. However, that is not the case with Airbag. They have a refreshing clean, tight sound when they perform their broad selection of classic rock covers and original music.

The members of Airbag have known each other for years. The group formed in 1999 though Dan Trotter on guitar plus vocals and Jason Jeras on drums have been playing together in some form or another for over ten years. They discovered Eric Bergstrom, who plays bass, guitar and does vocals, a several years ago. Airbag has recently decided to work as a three-piece group. The guys agree it's tough playing out with just the three of them because it's harder to get a "full sound" with just guitar, bass and drums. Airbag pulls it off incredibly well with their unique style.

Ironically, all three of the guys started out playing death metal music from which you would never know it to hear them play now. It's hard to classify them into a single style of music. One minute they will be grooving to a funky blues type beat and next they will move into a classic pop/rock style. Airbag does this variety of styles with a flair that accents each member's individual musical talents. They play a wide variety of classic songs such as "I Just Want to Celebrate" by Rare Earth, "The No No Song" by Ringo Starr, "Good Lovin'" by the Rascals, "Brown Sugar" by the Rolling Stones and "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" by the Georgia Satellites. Plus, the band has a number of original compositions they play from their latest CD "What's It All About".

Airbag has already gotten some recognition in the local music scene. The band was nominated for four Rockford Area Music Industry awards. They were voted "Best of Rockford" in 2002 and played at On The Waterfront.

So what's in the future for Airbag? The group will be at Shooter's East on July11th at 9:30pm and Shooter's North (with Mark Willer opening) on July 12th at 9:30pm. Then they move on to Oscar's Pub on July 26th at 9:00 pm. In addition to the upcoming shows, the band is continually working on expanding their play list. So come on out and check out Airbag. The group's danceable beats will get you in the mood to shake it on the dance floor.
