Chubby Rain House of Tunes - A High-Tech Musical Venue in the Heart of Small Town Solitude

Are you tired of the same few clubs to see live bands or the drive to Chicago for more selection? Well, it might be a little bit of a drive (but certainly not as far as Chi-town, Madison or Milwaukee), but there is a new place to go. Chubby Rain House of Tunes is located in Poplar Grove, Illinois, near Belvidere. While you might have to make your way past some cornfields to get there, it's large dance floor and killer stage (not to mention solid entertainment) should be well worth the trip. The stage area is one of the more impressive I have seen in the area, and the whole operation looks to be very top-notch. While Poplar Grove seems like an unlikely place for a music club, co-owners Di & Mark Currier seem to have really pulled out all the stops to make this a great venue.

Upcoming bands include Robin' Banks, The Aunt Jane Band (playing the grand opening on July 10th) and others. They are even sponsoring a battle of the bands. I haven't seen one of those in a while! With the quality of the venue, and the lack of great places to see live music in the area, this one should be a welcome addition to music fans. If it becomes one of your favorite places to hang out, they even have a full line of Chubby Rain gear so you can tell the world. Please note, that doesn't mean raincoats, but rather T-shirts, Tank Tops and Baseball Caps.

The bar features various drink specials, and if you get hungry they serve a variety of everyone's favorites. They even offer a designated driver program. So, if you feel like going out and partying, and need a ride home, they can take care of that for you. Chubby Rain also features all-ages shows on Sundays, so the teenagers need not feel left out. They're closed on Mondays, but Tuesday see them offering Karaoke, and they have an open mic on Wednesdays. The rest of the week it is different live bands.

While it is a bit out of Rockford, the place is easy to find - take any road to highway 76. Go north from 20 or south from 173, and when you see the mall turn in. You can't miss their big sign, and the unique aluminum saloon look to the building will certainly catch your eye. The address is 4210 Countryside Estates Drive. If you need more information you can contact them at 765-1884 or point your web-browser to www.chubbyrainhouseoftunes.com. Stop by and check them out. The staff is enthusiastic and friendly (you can tell from talking to them that they love music), and the place is quite interesting.
