Cameron McGill & What Army are going to be in the area playing dates at both Kryptonite and Dekalb's House Café. That seemed like a good reason to give a listen to the latest CD soon to be released from this outfit. They've produced an intriguing sonic melange that combines a lot of diverse music into a series of songs that are unique and entertaining.

Sometimes the music here moves into the vein of near country. Think of some of the mellower music from The Eagles in the 1970's (when they were still considered "rock"). At other points they come in closer to Jellyfish with a sedate, Beatles influenced pop rock element. Then I can hear some of the odd little ditties from Queen (think of "Lazing on A Sunday Afternoon"). There's even a track that reminds me of the psychedelic era of Pink Floyd.

For my money this is quite a strong disc. There's not a bad song in the bunch. The only reason I'm giving it four beets rather than five is that I'd say it tends to be a bit too mellow for the long haul. I definitely wouldn't recommend it in the car at night as you might doze off and hit a tree. Still, you'll note that I only took off one beet for that - so that tells you this is a great disc.
