There’s a phenomenon in music known as the sophomore jinx which says that usually a group’s second release doesn’t stand up to their debut. The Bridge shows that the jinx doesn’t apply to them. This CD is every bit as good as their first disc, and when you start off as good as that one was, that means Training Day is another great hip hop release.
The beats are fresh and these guys still show off their knack of playing off of each other is strong. If you are a fan of hip hop you really need to get this one (and that was just as true of the first release). They change it up enough, and even include a send up of Justin Timberlake – you’ll have to listen to see what I mean, but you might find the title of the Bridge’s song “Text Me Back” sounds vaguely familiar.
As with most hip hop, parents need to be mindful of listening to this around their kids, but the music is among the best in the genre. For those who haven’t yet gotten their other disc, I’d recommend both equally – so take your pick for your first step onto The Bridge. For those who already own the first one, this is a “must have.” Once again we see that Rockford is home to some great hip hop artists. |
