How often do you get to see an international music act in a club in Rockford? Well, Court is a progressive rock band from Italy, and they are set to play Kryptonite on June 13th. This seemed like a great opportunity to review their new CD, Frost of Watermelon, for Beet Cafe. The disc showcases a strong prog rock outfit that doesn't compromise their musical vision or the integrity of the genre.

The majority of this CD falls into the territory of classic progressive rock, somewhat along the lines of the more melodic music of old Genesis, Happy the Man or King Crimson. One track does come in as more modern sounding music along the lines of neo-prog. The group does a great job of alternating between long epic pieces and shorter snapshot sized tracks. This, and the general varied structure of the music keeps it from ever feeling repetitive or boring.

If you long for the music of old school prog bands, this disc is definitely for you. You'll also want to be sure to make it down to Kryptonite to check this band out. They are extremely talented and show a lot of promise for greatness. You might ask, what is "Frost of Watermelon?" Well, there is actually a recipe in the booklet for this CD and it sounds like a tasty dessert. For more information, including how to get your hands on this disc, check out the band's website.
