It's deep winter here in Northern Illinois, but that doesn't keep the folks at Pec Playhouse Theatre from working harder than ever. New board members, building renovation, and a hilarious season-opener make for lively evenings at your local community theatre.
Pec Playhouse welcomed several new members to their Board of Directors at January's annual meeting. Newcomers Doug Rappa, Ilea Pearce, and Kathy Dougherty have prior acting and volunteer experience at the theatre. They join returning board members Laurie Miller, Pamela Barkdoll and Lucia Hauge to fill the six open seats.
Long-time volunteers Brad Keyes and Arnie Ames are spearheading a renovation project to redesign existing space into a common dressing room area. The current make-shift dressing rooms are crowded and dark, and actors share the public restrooms. Included in the plans are men's and women's dressing rooms, stairs that connect the dressing area and backstage, and a separate restroom for actors and crew. Board members expect the renovations to be completed by late spring or early summer.
But most exciting of all is the upcoming show, Love, Sex & the IRS , opening February 8 th ! Written by William Van Zandt & Jane Milmore, the hilarious season opener is a sitcom-style comedy about deception, mistaken identities, and, well, sex. (But it's not what you think!) When Jon decides to con the IRS by claiming to be married to Leslie, his ambiguously-named male roommate, it seems he's gotten away with the perfect scam. Until they get audited, that is. Hilarity ensues as Leslie tries to convince the IRS agent that he's a woman, and to make matters worse, Jon's mother shows up, and then an actual fiancé. Add in a misogynistic landlord, and we've got the makings of one crazy show!
