Sister Bernie's Bingo Bash - A Benefit Show for New American Theater
by Press Release

Sister Bernie's Bingo Bash is an original comedy about the hard-luck lives of a priest and two nuns who lost their parish because of an unfortunate mishap with a broken bingo board.  With hope of making enough money to reopen their church, this traveling trio takes their bingo game across the USA. Back in Rockford by popular demand, Father Martini, Sister Bernie and Sister Cherisse make a stop at The New American Theater.  During the Bingo Bash, audience members will partake in seven bingo games (according to the seven deadly sins), inspiring songs, spiritual insight, wacky prizes and some healthy competition!  Give 'em a dime and this traveling trio just may save your soul!

Artistic Director Tony Vezner is pleased to be bringing this raucous comedy to Rockford, "It's just a hilarious show.  It doesn't matter if you're catholic or not, this play is a stitch.  The characters are just so fun and lively.  Like Tony 'n Tina's Wedding, it's improvised and interactive comedy for the audience.  So you get to be part of the fun!  You get to play bingo (for small - not cash - prizes), join in the songs and all of the activities."

Two of the actors bringing this show to Rockford have graced the NAT stage before - Jon Marco of Chicago ("Marley" and "Topper" in A Christmas Carol in 2004 and many characters including and the British and French Consul in Around the World in 80 Days in 2005), and Barb Rosenbalm from Rockford (understudy for "Joan" in The Guys in 2004 and "Mrs. Fezziwig" and "Mrs. Cratchit" in A Christmas Carol in 2004).   "Jon is just one of the quirkiest, funniest actors I know," says Vezner, "He developed the piece with a few of his friends and offered last year to bring it to NAT to help support the theater.  It's going to be a really fun couple of nights."
