Midway Presents Historic Lecture Series

Midway Village & Museum Center is hosting a Winter Lecture Series in January, February and March.  Local experts will explore topics of both local and national interest.  A Civil War Symposium will be held on January 26 from 10am to 4pm at a cost of $13 ($9 for members and students) and includes lunch.
Saturday, January 26, 2008, from 10am to 4pm - Civil War Symposium. Lunch is included. Advance Reservations are required for the Symposium by January 23, 2008.

CIVIL WAR SYMPOSIUM TOPICS
Images of Civil War Medicine- Dr. Gordon Dammann, Chairman of the Board of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, Maryland will discuss his new book Images of Civil War Medicine: A Photographic History.
The New Civil War Museum of the Midwest- Lance Herdegen, award winning author and the country’s leading historian of the Iron Brigade, will talk about the new Civil War Museum of the Midwest that will be opening in Kenosha, Wisconsin in March 2008.
The Civil War’s Impact on Traditional Women’s Roles and Their Fashions- The Civil War opened new roles and professions for women that included nursing, teaching and office work and women’s fashions began to change accordingly. Presented by K. Krewer of Orion, Illinois.
The Vicksburg Campaign- John Roseberg of Roscoe, Illinois will discuss Grant’s 1863 battle campaign that resulted in the fall of the fortress city, Vicksburg, and command of the Mississippi River…the major turning point of the Civil War.
The remaining three lectures will be held February 10, February 24, and March 16 at 2:00pm.
Topics include:
• The History of the Rockford Police Department: The Early Years - February 10th
• World War II Propaganda Art Posters - February 24
• Rockford Women Fight World War II - March 16
Admission is just $3 per afternoon lecture.  Members are free for the 3 Lectures.
Reservations can be made by calling the Museum at 815-397-9112.  
The lectures are sponsored in part by the Rockford Historical Society and the Rockford Park District.
