The Guys By Anne Nelson Opens October 1, runs through October 24 (Recommended for high school age and older)
Less than two weeks after the September 11th attacks, New Yorkers are still in shock. One of them, an editor named Joan, receives an unexpected phone call on behalf of Nick, a fire captain who has lost most of his men in the attack. He's looking for a writer to help him with the eulogies he must present at their memorial services. Nick and Joan spend a long afternoon together, recalling the fallen men, recounting their virtues and their foibles, and fashioning their stories into memorials of words. In the process, Nick and Joan discover the possibilities of friendship in each other and their shared love for the unconquerable spirit of the city. As they make their way through the emotional landscape of grief, they draw on humor, tango, the appreciation of craft in all its forms - and the enduring bonds of common humanity. Based on a true story.
A Christmas Carol From the Novel by Charles Dickens Opens November 26, runs through December 24 (Recommended for audiences of all ages) Student matinees available
The ghosts of Jacob Marley, and Christmases Past, Present and Future will once again materialize on the stage of New American Theater. Join us for this new adaptation of the holiday classic that is sure to delight theater-goers of all ages.

They travel by steamship, elephant, train -you name it! All the while, their steps are followed by the cunning and confused Detective Fix who thinks that Fogg is a bank robber. Along the way the pair face endless adventures - storms, Indians, riots, collapsing train bridges - and Fogg finds love in the arms of an Indian princess. In the end a trick of fate and a geography lesson may hold the key to their success.
Five Women Wearing the Same Dress By Alan Ball Opens March 11, runs through April 3 (Recommended for adults only*) A deliciously fun comedy! During a big wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee estate, five reluctant bridesmaids hide out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the party. As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, irreverent and touching celebration of women's spirit. If you have ever wondered what women talk about when they are alone - this is the play for you. Written by Alan Ball, the Academy Award-winning writer of American Beauty and creator of the HBO series Six Feet Under.
*This play includes adult language and brief nudity.
The Taffetas (Recommended for all ages) Opens April 29, runs through May 22 Set in a 1950s TV studio, the show surrounds the four singing Taffeta sisters, who are making their national debut on the DuMont network's program, "Spotlight on Music." Prior to 'Spotlight,' the Taffetas biggest gig has been at the Moose Hall in Muncie, Indiana. The Taffetas' professional future hinges upon their "Spotlight" performance; if they ace this gig, Ed Sullivan will be on the horn in a heartbeat. With a medley of hits like "Sh-Boom," 'Mister Sandman," "Johnny Angel" and "Where the Boys Are," how can they lose? |
