As I Lay Dying - Major Metal Act to Appear at Chubby Rain
by Gary Hill
How often do you get to see a band that’s graced the Ozzfest stage in a venue as intimate as Chubby Rain House of Tunes? Not very often. Well, As I Lay Dying will be headlining there on January 27th. That means this is a rare opportunity and one not to be missed.
They debuted on Metal Blade Records in 2003 with Frail Words Collapse. It turned out to be quite an impressive debut, too – selling over 210,000 copies. It established As I Lay Dying as a powerful force in the metal scene. After another release (Shadows Are Security), the band toured with Ozzfest in 2005. While they were on the side stage, this was to be just another step in their steady climb up the heavy metal ladder.
The next year saw them on the second annual Taste Of Chaos tour along with Deftones and Thrice. Those tours, along with a headlining stint on 2006’s Sounds Of The Underground outing helped to propel Shadows…to 275,000 copies.
Since then they’ve played on Vans Warped Tour 2007 and Bamboozle 2007. Their next disc, 2007’s An Ocean Between Us landed at number 8 on the Billboard Charts and earned them a Grammy Nomination.
How often can you see a band like that in a small venue in this area? Not very often – it’s that simple. They’ll be playing Chubby Rain House of Tunes with Protest the Hero, The Human Abstract and My Children My Bride. The date is January 27th and if you are into modern, brutal metal with a catchy chorus, then you need to be there.
