21st Annual Fall ArtScene

ArtScene brings out thousands of art-lovers to galleries and studios all over town, to enjoy new exhibits of original works. Art Scene attracts so many fans because it is free, and it's fun for both the browser and the buyer.  This year Fall ArtScene will be held on October 3rd and 4th.  Hours are Friday from 5 - 9 pm and Saturday from 3 - 9 pm.

Artist Karen Hilliard will exhibit her contemporary collage, acrylics and watercolors.  Her work focuses on the study of textures, color and abstract form.

"Impressionistic Style Photography"  Julie Garton, from Wisconsin, recycles vintage record album covers and vinyl discs into a CUSTOM CARRIER that is wearable functional art.  New this year are album wine totes and coasters.  Margaret Hutten features one of a kind greeting cards and jewelry made from unusual and ordinary materials.  An emphasis on "Green Crafting," that is using found or useless objects and repurposing them.

"love. type. thing."  A graphic combination of type, toys, found objects and imagination.  Carefully recorded details accompanied by subtle messages and symbols, represent the artist's opinion and sarcastic wit.  Nicholas Dal Pra's artful aesthetic is provoked by humor and angst derived from his experiences with life, death, and everything in between.

"Poetry as Art"  This is a multi-media fine art show, showcasing the talents of Emmanuel artists and their friends in which art has been inspired by poetry.  There is food and live music both days, and a poetry reading session on Friday evening at 6 p.m. by Jim Roberts with open mic poetry afterwards.  Entrance to the exhibit is through the back doors of the church, right off 2nd Avenue and 6th Street.

"Conceptual Vision"  Brad Nordlof (Rockford) and Doug Sperling (Chicago) will display their current conceptual visions.  Brad is a landscape photographer.  His images capture nature and are displayed with size and power in order to transfer the unique experience and concept to the viewer.  Doug is a professional commercial photographer.  His images are a tribute to artists like Euclid and Doppler in which he includes repeating patterns, synchronous lines and the concept of infinity.  Also featured will be Ingrid Dohm's latest works.

"2008 Rockford Midwestern"  This juried biennial exhibition features 100 original paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings and photographs by 90 artists from across the Midwest.  Award-winners include, Eric Mecum (Dean Alan Olson Purchase Award), Joseph Church (Best of Show), Kay Westhues (Best 2-D) and Susan Dwyer (Best 3-D).  Local artists include Stephen Warde Anderson, John Bell, Katie Bell, Danielle Burbach, Paul Burkholder, Ingrid Dohm, Yale Factor, Keith Grace, Debra Grall, Mary Hakala, Kristy Luck, Kristine Allen McMahon, David Menard, Deborah Newton, Paul Pinzarrone, Cherri Rittenhouse-Schwaiger and Alfred Stark.

"Crossroads"  A cross section of paintings by artist educator Mary Glynn-Boies highlighting her current work alongside selected earlier paintings in a solo exhibition.  Her paintings are stilled narratives spotlighting children seemingly absorbed in ordinary activities but placed in surroundings steeped in potentiality.
