Greenwich Village Art Fair Sept. 15-16 at Rockford Art Museum

The 2012 Rockford Art Museum (RAM) Greenwich Village Art Fair takes place Sept. 15–16, rain or shine, on the grounds of RAM at Riverfront Museum Park, 711 North Main Street in downtown Rockford, Illinois. Gates are open 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Sunday. Admission at the gate is $5 for adults, free for children 12 and younger. Advance tickets are $3 and are available at the RAM Store or any Alpine Bank location. All proceeds support RAM programs throughout the year.

A Rockford tradition since 1948, Greenwich is the oldest continuous outdoor fine art fair in the Midwest. The 2012 event features more than 100 juried artists; live music, both days; children’s art activities; 20 Gourmet Marketplace and Bohemian Bazaar vendors; and food and beverage vendors, including The Rock River Times Bistro, Bud Light Village Pub, Kortman Gallery Point Bar. NEW this year is a booth exhibiting four local emerging artists, sponsored by Better Business Bureau of Rockford. The 64th Greenwich Village Art Fair is dedicated to the creativity and kindness of Rockford artist Jim Julin (1956–2012). Alpine Bank is the presenting sponsor for the 19th consecutive year; premier sponsor is CW Blazer Foundation; and GVAF Chairman is Scott Prine. More than 100 artists from across the nation will exhibit at this year’s fair. Types of artwork represented include paintings, prints and drawings, sculpture, glass, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, photography, and more. Artists are judged on the first day of the fair by 2012 Juror Julie Ganser, director of advising, programs and outreach at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Awards, including Best of Show and six Judge’s Choice awards, are announced Sunday, Sept. 16. List of exhibiting artists and vendors attached.

KRYPTONITE MUSIC STAGE features live music all day, both days, by local musicians. All shows included with fair admission. Styles vary, ranging from jazz and blues, to rock and pop, to folk and country. The 2012 roster features Derek Luttrell, The Andreas Kapsalis and Goran Ivanovic Guitar Duo, Ron Rawhoof, Hope Despite, Craig Tuttle, Richard Douglas Band, After Five Jazz, Steve Stapler, and Empty Pockets. THE ROCK RIVER TIMES BISTRO also features music by Harmonic Movement, Mark Bernard, and Jim Grass.

CREATIONS BY KIDS, sponsored by Children’s Medical Center at Rockford Health System and Prismacolor, is an area where children can make their own take-home art based on this year’s theme, Space Art. These hands-on art activities are $1 each, or $5 for all six, which include paper bag astronaut helmets; alien creations; Model Magic planets; easel space painting; alien faces; and galaxy painting

THE ROCK RIVER TIMES BISTRO features fine wines and a gourmet Bloody Mary bar. The TRRT Bistro offers special events both days, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., $7 each. These Bistro Breakfasts offer individually prepared crepes on Saturday, omelets on Sunday, served with complimentary champagne or coffee. KORTMAN GALLERY POINT BAR features signature cocktails like the Love Lemon and Sock Monkey ARTinis. BUD LIGHT VILLAGE PUB serves grilled fare favorites. Food and beverage vendors throughout the fair include CARLYLE BREWING COMPANY, WOODFIRE BRICK OVEN PIZZA, JAVAMANIA COFFEE ROASTERY, MATT HEY ICE CREAM, and WE-B-POPP’N KETTLE KORN.

GOURMET MARKETPLACE offers Midwest delicacies, including fine chocolates, herbal teas, gourmet dips and cheeses. Vendors include Bella Luna Bakery; CACAOCUVEE fine chocolates; Lime Rock Brown Swiss Farm cheeses; Pasta Cucina; and Wind Ridge Herb Farm. BOHEMIAN BAZAAR offers affordable vintage finds and handmade work in an urban market setting, including booths by Candle Crest Soy Candles; Etim’s Beauty; PAWS Humane Society; and Sacred Mocs, handmade by Tim Goral. Tickets are also on sale for the 2012 ART RAFFLE, $5 each or three for $10. Raffle tickets available at RAM Store and at J.R. Kortman Center for Design, 107 N. Main St. Drawing will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, at 3:45 p.m.; ticketholders need not be present to win. Five winners announced, with artwork generously provided by artists Shawn Barbagallo, Thomas Brain, Sharon Fujimoto, Ilene Rezman, and Robert Sunday.
