50th Anniversary Chandler Starr Miller Scholarship Competition and Winners' Recital

The Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center is pleased to announce the Winner’s Recital for the 50th Anniversary Chandler Starr Miller Scholarship Competition. The recital will take place on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Second Congregational United Church of Christ. The first place winners in each division will perform their competition pieces, and all of this year’s participants and competition alumni will be recognized. The recital will also feature performances by competition alumni Michael Beert, cello; Patricia Lee, piano; and Alyseia Smith, voice. Admission for the recital is $5 for adults and $1 for students at the door. This year’s competition participants, their teachers and accompanists receive free admission. Past competition participants are welcome and encouraged to attend this 50th anniversary recital. An informal reception will follow the recital.
The scholarship competition itself will take place on Saturday, February 19, 2011 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at three different venues. Over ninety students, from third grade to college, will compete for monetary awards in Elementary,
Junior, Senior and College divisions, including Piano and Strings, Vocal and Non-String Orchestral Instruments. Prominent adjudicators from throughout the region will be evaluating the students and critiquing their performances.
