Moon Over the Brewery shines at Artists' Ensemble

by Press Release

Miriam is a stressed-out single mom who waits tables by day and paints moonscapes by night. She’s doing her best to cope with her 13-year-old daughter, Amanda. Amanda has a genius I.Q. and an imaginary friend named Randolph who stubbornly refuses to be outgrown. Together, Amanda and Randolph are working on a plan to get rid of Warren, the shy mailman who is courting Miriam. But Warren may surprise them. In fact, he might be just what Amanda and her lonely mother really need in this gentle romantic comedy. Performances are December 3–19 in the Cheek Theatre at Rockford College.

Award-winning playwright Bruce Graham says that, after completing a particularly dark play, he “made a conscious choice that my next play would be happy, damnit. A love story. But not a love story about sophisticated, dashing people ‘cause I don’t know anybody like that. I did, however, know a few postal workers and waitresses. And my niece, Amanda (who was four) had an imaginary friend, Chester, who lived behind our couch. Out of all that came Moon Over The Brewery.”

Katie Maringer, last seen in AE’s Italian American Reconciliation, plays Miriam. Sara Belida, a sophomore at Guilford High School, makes her AE debut as Amanda. Chicago guest actor Jeff Christian plays Warren and Mickey Stegall, also from Chicago, appears as Randolph.

Performances are Thursdays at 7:30, Fridays at 8, Saturdays at 4 and 8, and Sundays at 2 p.m. Thursday tickets are $19. Tickets for other shows are $28, $26 for seniors, and $10 for students.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.artistsensemble.org or by calling 815-904-2277.
