The Hold Steady To Bring Bar-Rock “Heaven” To Dekalb

by Press Release

Kickstand Productions is excited to bring the working class anthems of critic darlings The Hold Steady to Otto's Nightclub on Friday, November 19th. Tickets will be $17 for this 21+ event. Advance tickets are available via www.yourticketstand.com.

Formed in 2003 by primary songwriters Craig Finn and Tad Kubler – after the demise of their previous Minneapolis-based act Lifter Puller – The Hold Steady released their debut album, Almost Killed Me (Frenchkiss Records) the next year to rave reviews. The band’s mixture of Springsteen-esque heartland rock with stories heavy on reoccurring characters and criminal mischief scored the group a front-page story in Village Voice (marking the first time a rock band has graced the cover of that publication in 15 years) and a Band Of The Year nod from Blender Magazine.

With each subsequent release – Separation Sunday (2005, Frenchkiss); Boys & Girls In America (2006, Vagrant); Stay Positive (2008, Vagrant) – the band has garnered thousands of new fans around the globe. Rock critics can’t seem to get enough of the band’s earnest, yet playful live shows or the albums themselves. America itself was named a Top 10 Album of the Year by Rolling Stone and landed the band some major stage real estate, as they opened for a diverse who’s who list: Counting Crows, Dave Matthews Band and even the Rolling Stones.

The band’s most recent release, this year’s Heaven Is Whenever (Vagrant), marks their biggest Billboard charting yet (#26 the week of its release) and has brought them to national TV audiences via The Colbert Report and Late Night With David Letterman. But take note: all the attention doesn’t seem to phase this bar-rock brain trust. Says vocalist Finn of their current state of fame, “The most amazing part of this life is the opportunity to share music with a supportive audience. It is not lost on us that people make sacrifices of their own to see us perform. They spend money on tickets and travel, they get baby sitters, and take time off work. It's an honor for us to be a recipient of this kind of dedication.” Sounds just like the blue-collar ethos that perpetuates their gigantic sing-alongs.

Support acts will be announced shortly. If you are interested in setting up an interview with The Hold Steady, do not hesitate to get in touch with me through the contact info listed above.

Don't miss The Hold Steady at Otto's Nightclub on Friday, November 19th in DeKalb, IL. For information regarding advance tickets or for all other inquiries visit our website kickstandproductions.net or call (630) 926-5229.
