Used Art Sale Benefit

by Press Release

Rockford Urban Ministries is hosting its fourth annual “Used Art Sale” at 201 Seventh Street, Rockford, in the JustGoods Gallery.

The sale begins Friday, November 5 and runs until Saturday, November 27. The “used art” gallery is open during JustGoods fair trade store hours Tuesday through Saturdays, 10 – 6, or call for special showings 815-964-7111.

A variety of art has been donated so far: oil and watercolor paintings, photographs byDouglas Hamm, beautiful pastels of the Rockford area by Ray Schulz, textiles from Una Gail, and John Berry prints while he worked at the old Charlotte’s Web Music Center.

A beautiful oil painting by former State Senator Vivian Hickey is a surprise donation from the artist herself. Sen. Hickey, long time Rockford resident, has just taken up painting and one of her first pieces is donated to the “Used Art” sale.

Former Rockford artist John Berry has five pieces donated by various collectors. John Berry was the artist that decorated Charlotte’s Web in its heyday. Mr. Berry presently resides in Minneapolis and has a successful artistic career.

A large selection of used art books was donated by Rockford’s best antiquarian bookstore, the Book Stall.

The reception and gallery at JustGoods, 201 Seventh St., is free and open to the public, and the art is priced to sell.

All proceeds benefit Rockford Urban Ministries and its partner projects. RUM’s latest project is hosting a work camp for large groups of volunteers to work on indigent peoples’ homes.

Donations are still being accepted for the sale. Anything that could be considered art is welcome, donations may be dropped off at the gallery at 201 Seventh Street during store hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 – 6. Or call Stanley Campbell at 815-964-7111 for pick up or special arrangements.
