Art Song Project Seeks New Members
by Press Release
The Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center is pleased to announce that the Art Song Project, one of Mendelssohn’s two vocal groups, is seeking new members for its 2010-2011 season.
The Art Song Project is a group of singers dedicated to the enjoyment and appreciation of art songs. All adult singers who have studied voice and have an interest in performing and listening to art songs are invited to participate.
The group meets in an informal atmosphere on two consecutive Tuesdays per month from September to November and from February to April. This season’s first meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 14 at 7:00 p.m. The meetings are held at the historic Emerson House in downtown Rockford. Membership cost is $40 for the season.
Those who wish to participate rehearse with an accompanist at the first meeting of the month and then perform for the membership at the second meeting of the month. This season the group plans to emphasize French, German, and Italian diction.
An art song is created when a composer, inspired by a poem, sets it to music. The rich and varied genre of the art song spans centuries, languages and cultures, and continues today.
Interested singers should call Cathy Herdeman at 815-398-4257 for more information.
