Going Crazy For Buttons In Rockton

by Press Release

“Fun Day with Buttons”, a free annual event, will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Rockton Community Center. In addition to the buying, selling and exchanging with button dealers from 4 states in attendance, those who have buttons they do not know anything about are invited to attend. They can have someone take a look at their buttons to learn more about them and explain their potential value. Admission is free for both the event and the button review!

Some people collect buttons by the “material” they are made from such as bone, metal, glass and others. Some collect by themes such as animals, flowers, transportation, or sports and there are collections based on the number of holes in a button. Buttons can have as few as one hole (the button is held in place with a ball that has two holes) and as many as 15 holes, on some of which you could stitch a monogram). Buttons can often tell you the time period they were made during and military buttons can be used to identify what uniform on which they appeared.

As with many collections, there are specific ways to display your precious items. At this event, professional button collectors will teach you how to properly mount yours onto button cards.

The event is sponsored by The Rock River Button Club and will be held at the Rockton Community Center, 302 West Main, near the Post Office. Food will be available for sale.
