Open House At Searls Dog Park May 15

by Press Release

The Friends of Canine Corners dog parks invite the public as well as current and prospective members of both parks and their dogs to a free open house Saturday, May 15 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. (rain or shine) at the Searls Park location, 4950 Safford Rd. (off S. Central Ave.) in northwest Rockford. Among the event's activities will be: pet vendor booths, t-shirt sales, nail clipping services by vet technicians, and training and agility demonstrations of Winnebago County Police dogs. The Friends of Canine Corners is a group of volunteers who contribute time and energy to Rockford Park District's Elliot and Searls dog parks for maintenance, governance, general operation, and etiquette education. The volunteers at Searls have been given the opportunity to fence in 20 additional acres of wooded hiking trails to create one of the largest dog parks in the country, and the Friends group will kick off their Project Woods fundraising efforts for fencing this area for the expansion. At the open house event, tours will be given through this area adjoining the existing park. For information on purchasing dog parks membership tags, as well as about dog park policies and regulations, visit www.rockfordparkdistrict.org/caninecorners or call 815-987-8800.
