Auditions for Oklahoma!

by Press Release

Pec Playhouse Theatre will hold auditions for their summer musical Oklahoma! on Saturday, April 24 from 2:00-4:00pm, and Monday, April 26 and Tuesday, April 27 at 7:00pm. All auditions will be held at the theater, 314 Main St., Pecatonica.

Oklahoma! was the first musical written by composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II.  The musical is based on Lynn Riggs' 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs.  Set in Oklahoma Territory outside the town of Claremore in 1906, it tells the story of cowboy Curly McLain and his romance with farm girl Laurey Williams.  A secondary romance concerns flirtatious Ado Annie and her long-suffering fiancé Will Parker.

Roles are available for men & women aged 15 and older. No roles have been pre-cast. Auditioners should come prepared to sing 16-32 measures of a song from the show. An accompanist will be provided. You will also be asked to read an excerpt from the script with other auditioners. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes as you may be asked to perform a few dance steps the choreographer will teach you. We will particularly be looking for one male & one female dancer at an intermediate level or above for the Dream Ballet. There are also numerous backstage positions available.

Oklahoma! was chosen in celebration of our 20th season. This show was the first musical performed in our current location during the summer of 1999. The production is being directed by Amy TerHark, longtime Pec Playhouse volunteer, and will be presented weekends July 16 through August 1.    Rehearsals will be Monday thru Thursday evenings, with a few additional rehearsals on Saturdays.   If you have questions or are unable to attend the published auditions, you may contact Amy TerHark directly at (815) 494-9706 or amy@wovenaccents.com.
