Large and Small Fairies to Invade New Sullivan Theater!

by Press Release

Who doesn’t enjoy watching fairies flit about to the amazing music of Felix Mendelssohn?  Add Shakespeare’s favorite comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and you have a fantastical night of entertainment.  Lighten your heart and share a laugh with this escape of sprightly movements filled with mirth, mistaken identity, and a successful love story or two.  Rockford Dance Company will revive this award winning production set in the intimate woods at the New Sullivan Theater (Old New American Theater) on April 16, 17, and 18.

Guest Artist, Avram Gold, will be joining RDC’s company in the role of Oberon, the King of the Fairies.  Avram began his training in Fairfax, California and joined the prestigious Houston Ballet in 1998.  His mastery of technique and artistry has taken him all over the world in principal roles.  In 2002, Avram joined the Omaha Theater Ballet where his athletic interpretations included title roles in Dracula, Romeo and Juliet, The Sleeping Beauty, The Firebird, and The Nutcracker.

Artistic Director, Margaret Faust, expresses her enthusiasm of re-staging the ballet in the unique and intimate space at The Sullivan Theater.  “Ballet is usually presentational but I feel that Midsummer is theatrical enough to work on a thrust stage.  The restaging has been an enjoyable challenge to me and the company is ecstatic about the new dimension and the proximity of the audience.”  Costume and Set Designer, Julie Seger, faces the challenge of creating a full forest atmosphere in the space.  “I want it to be magical in its interpretation and to offer the glow and enjoyment of a warm summer night.”

Audiences on Friday and Saturday night will enjoy small Fairies in the lobby of the theater.  A silent auction will feature over 25 fairy dolls created by local artist.
