Tracy Silverman Receives RAMI Outstanding Achievement Award

by Press Release

Tracy Silverman was awarded the RAMI Outstanding Achievement Award at the Eclectica Concert on February 27th.  Tracy grew up in Beloit, WI.  Tracy returns each year to work with students and do fund raising for his alma matter Beloit Memorial High School.

Tracy has performed, recorded and toured with a who's who of the new music, jazz and pop/rock fields and is known internationally as one of the world’s foremost electric violinists.  Equally at home in concert halls and clubs, he has performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall to CBGB’s, Hollywood Bowl to Brazil’s Teatro Guaira, and on national TV and radio. Pulitzer prize winning composer John Adams recently wrote the electric violin concerto “The Dharma at Big Sur” specifically for Tracy, inspired by his unique 6-string electric violin. Premiered by Tracy at the gala opening of the LA Philharmonic's new Walt Disney Concert Hall in 2003, he has since performed it at London’s Royal Albert Hall, Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center, in Brussles and elsewhere and recorded it with the BBC Symphony for Nonesuch Records. Silverman's own Electric Violin Concerto has been choreographed by Henrique Rodovolho and the Bale Teatro Guaira and has been heralded as "the ideal piece for today’s symphony." Tracy has toured and recorded with composer Terry Riley, was first violinist with the Turtle Island String Quartet, has produced and toured extensively with pianist Jim Brickman and is a featured artist on over 20 Windham Hill Collections. Billboard called Silverman’s 1999 self-produced release, Trip to the Sun, “the most adventurous Windham Hill album ever." Silverman is continually touring in the US and internationally as a solo performer and in various collaborations. Tracy teaches jazz violin at Belmont University in Nasville, TN and gives frequent workshops and clinics around the world.  You can listen to excerpts of Tracy's many CD's at www.TracySilverman.com.
