by Press Release

From high atop the stage of the beautiful Maddox Theater, return to those thrilling days of yesteryear as Artists’ Ensemble re-creates a vintage radio broadcast. This one-night-only performance is at 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 6 at Rockford College. Tickets are $30. All proceeds benefit Artists’ Ensemble, the area’s only resident Equity professional theater.

“Captain Cosmos, Defender of the Galaxy” will be live on stage, along with Sparky the Space Dog as AE actors perform original radio serials, complete with a sound effects table. Audiences will fight crime along with “Jake Granite, Private Eye” as he tries to crack another baffling case. AE regulars Steve Vrtol, Linda Abronski, Richard Raether, Carolyn Cadigan, Katie Maringer, Ken and Pat Staaf, and David Gingerich are among the radio actors on stage.

Music also plays a part in the Big Broadcast, with performances by Jodi Beach, Patte Armato-Lund, Betsy Kaske, Rod MacDonald and more. The Radio Gals, from last season’s hit musical will perform. “We are doing what AE does best, putting on a terrific show, while not taking ourselves too seriously” says AE Artistic Director Richard Raether.

There will also be a silent auction beginning at 7:00 in the lobby of the Maddox Theatre. Tickets may be purchased on line at www.artistsensemble.org or by calling the AE box office at 815-394-5004.
