Date: 01/10/2010 Rockford Park District Celebrates National Skating Month with Special Events
by Press Release January is National Skating Month and to celebrate, the Rockford Park District is offering a series of skating events and lessons for kids and adults during January and February.
National Skating Month, now in its ninth year, allows U.S. Figure Skating member clubs and Basic Skills programs to reach out to new members in their community by offering the fundamentals of ice skating from professionally-training instructors across the United States. The goal of National Skating Month is to increase awareness and participation in the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program. U.S Figure Skating is the national governing body for the sport of figure skating in the United States as recognized by the United States Olympic Committee.
“This year, U.S. Figure Skating expanded their program by a month as part of their ‘Destination Vancouver’ Olympic campaign to include February in addition to the traditional celebration in January,” said Ice Facilities Manager Julius Rankins. “We hope people will come out to Carlson Ice Arena or Riverview Ice House and enjoy some of our public skating sessions or lesson programs,” he continued.
Learn to Skate Lessons
The Rockford Park District’s Learn to Skate program uses the nationally recognized U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program. Classes meet once a week and skates are provided for all levels. Classes range from five to six week sessions and are available throughout the year for youth and adults ages three and older. Register in person at Carlson Ice Arena, 4150 N. Perryville Rd, or at the Webbs Norman Center, 401 S. Main St., Rockford, or online at www.rockfordparkdistrict.org.
Open Skates
Frosty Fridays - $5

Frosty & Friends Ice Skating - $5
Sunday, January 17, 2 – 4pm
Free skating lessons, giveaways, music by live DJ. $5 includes ice time and skate rental. Kids age two and under FREE.
