RSO Opens its 75th Anniversary Season with Violinist Rachel Barton Pine and a Mayoral Proclamation

by Press Release

The RSO will roll out the red carpet for opening night of the 75th Anniversary Season on Saturday, September 26, 2009, with a concert featuring the return of Rachel Barton Pine. The performance is at 7:30 p.m. at the Coronado Performing Arts Center. This concert is part of the ComEd Classics Series, and is graciously sponsored by Savant Capital Management.

The concert opens with Walton's Crown Imperial Coronation March, followed by Strauss' beloved Blue Danube Waltz, which was played on the RSO's first concert in 1934. The first half concludes with Pine performing Glazunov's violin concert. The second half of the concert features one of music's greatest masterpieces, Brahm's Symphony No. 3, a wonderful follow-up to last season’s Brahms-Schumann Festival.

During the concert, a representative from Mayor Morrissey’s office will join Steven Larsen and the RSO on stage for a mayoral proclamation declaring 2009/10 season the RSO’s 75th Anniversary Season. This proclamation will be made in person by Mayor Morrissey at the September 21 City Council Meeting at Rockford City Hall.

Tickets for this concert are available at www.rockfordsymphony.com, by calling 815-968-0595, or visiting the Coronado Performing Arts Center Box Office at 314 N. Main Street. Ticket prices range from $18 to $54.

To enhance the concert experience, the program notes are now available on-line. Patrons are also invited to attend the pre-concert lecture by Steven Larsen at 6:30 p.m. the night of the concert in the theatre.

Under the artistic leadership of Music Director Steven Larsen, the Rockford Symphony Orchestra is a leading arts organization in the Rockford Region and the third largest symphony orchestra in the state of Illinois. The RSO is made up of 85 professional musicians who perform 17 concerts per year--including classics, pops, ballet, and opera--for an estimated annual audience of 30,000. The RSO was named the 2007 Orchestra of the Year for Illinois and is celebrating its 75th anniversary during the 2009/10 season.
