Summer Camp Options From Rockford Park District

by Press Release

Registration is underway for Rockford Park District summer day and resident camps offered June-August, where children can enjoy activities with opportunities to form lasting friendships, and come away with memories that can last a lifetime!

Nature Quest day camp for children ages 5-10 is based at Aldeen Park, and provides a different theme and nature/environment related activity each week, along with traditional camp activities such as outdoor cooking, archery, crafts, hiking, games, tie-dyeing, and weekly field trips. (Accredited by the American Camp Association)

Youth ages 9-14 will focus on recreation, exploration, and "green" living at Lone Oak resident camp located along the scenic Kishwaukee River corridor at Atwood Park with a different theme each week, including activities such as outdoor living skills, hiking, archery, river study, teams course, and connecting with the Park's rich history. (Accredited by the American Camp Association)

A new offering this year, Summer Blast Day Camps at Windsor School or RESA, where youth ages 5-11 will enjoy sports lessons built into the program, which also includes outdoor games, arts and crafts, and weekly field trips and themed activities.

For horse riding enthusiasts to experience what it's like to have their own pony or horse for a week, there's half-day Pony Camp for ages 5-7 or all day TROT Camp for ages 8-13, where campers will learn basic riding skills on a pony or horse at Lockwood Park.

It's "all arts, all the time" at Totally Arts Camp, a two-week half-day program at Ellis Arts Academy, where youth ages 5-14 get creative with their choice of dance, music, drama, or visual arts.

myplace.fun is based out of Riverview Ice House, and provides youth ages 11-14 a fun, safe place to enjoy gaming, sports, music, arts, skating, broomball, and weekly themed activities from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

For these camps and other select programs, installment payments can be set up in advance to either automatically debit a bank account or be applied to a charge card. The Rockford Park District also offers a Fun For All Kids fee assistance program for qualifying resident families. Completed camp registration forms are accepted on a first come, first served basis online at www.rockfordparkdistrict.org, by mail, fax (credit card payments only), and at Park District Customer Service locations (downtown Rockford and Carlson Ice Arena in Loves Park).
