Teacher Fellowship for the Arts Program
by Press Release
The Rockford Area Arts Council is pleased to announce the new “Teacher Fellowship for the Arts Program” for District #205 classroom teachers. Teachers selected for the program will receive support and training in creating arts infused lessons to teach all subject areas. Fellowship teachers will earn CPDU credits and receive mini grants to present the lessons in their classroom. Lessons created by the teachers will be posted on the Arts Council’s Web Site: www.artsforeveryone.com. For this first pilot year of the program, teachers of kindergarten-3 rd grade will be selected. The program will expand to higher grades in subsequent years.
Current brain research affirms the positive effect the arts have in student learning, yet most teacher education programs rarely include arts infusion teaching methods in their curriculum. The Rockford Area Arts Council has worked with teachers, artists and arts organizations on arts integration for over 20 years.
Area artists from all disciplines who want to increase their understanding and skills in infusing their art into academic curriculum are invited to participate in the Teacher Fellowship training. Contact the Rockford Area Arts Council for more information: 815-963-6765 or info@artsforeveryone.com
