Groove Walk - A Tradition, A Value and Just Plain Fun

If you have lived in the Rockford area and haven't heard about Groove Walk, you must be in some sensory deprivation chamber. Groove Walk has been going on for many years and in this kind of economy where everyone is trying to get the most value for their entertainment dollar it's even more relevant. It's a great way to check out a lot of Rockford area musicians and establishments while spending only a little money.

In fact, this year is a bonus because instead of the fifteen bands and establishments that were part of Groove Walk in 2008, you get 16 this year! And even with the extra entertainment - and in a time where everything seems to be getting more expensive, Groove Walk's price is the same as last year. You can get your tickets for seven dollars in advance or ten at the door.

So, what does your hard earned money get you? Well, the people who organize Groove Walk (they are the same folks who bring you On The Waterfront) have really thought of everything. You get admission to all sixteen establishments to check out sixteen bands - plus they even provide a trolley for free to take you around to all the various locations.

The lineup this year starts off with The Missing Links at Bar 3. Bar Stool Bob Blues Band will be keeping it real at Big Cities. Basement Blues Band will be bringing their style of the blues to Brio Restaurant. Carlyle Brewing will feature Out of the Blues Jazz Combo. Stop by CJ's Lounge to check out Crunchy Frogs. Deli Italia Lounge will feature Combo Loco. Hawk's Nest will have Shuvlhed. When you make your way to the Irish Rose you'll be greeted by the music of Dean Moriarty Jazz Band.

J Bear's Place will play host to HillBillee. Frank & Mike Guitar Duo will hold down the tunes at Kiwi Cafe. Kryptonite will feature Too Deep. Octane InterLounge will have The Reggie. Rue Marche will feature the Lizzi Neal Band. The Office will play host to Mr. Big Stuff while Vintage Vinyl will be performing at Tommy Swilligan's Pub. Southern Heritage will round things out nicely at Vinny's on Block Five.

Those who talk about "nothing to do" in Rockford, be advised, you definitely can't say that on May 16th. How else can you get sixteen bands - and a free ride from venue to venue for ten dollars or less. It's a great value, great entertainment and a great time. It all starts at 9 PM and you can either be there or be left out. It's your choice.
