Amelia Guthrie Promising Singer of Merit Scholarship Winner’s Recital featuring Scholarship Winner Bethany Worrell

by Press Release

Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center is pleased to present the Amelia Guthrie Promising Singer of Merit Scholarship Winner’s Recital on Sunday, April 26th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center.  This year’s winner, Bethany Worrell, will perform works by Schubert, Faure, Hagen and Donaudy.  Admission is free to the public.  A goodwill offering will be taken at the door.

Bethany Worrell is from Macomb, IL and received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance, summa cum laude, from Western Illinois University.  She has performed in several choirs and operas at WIU as a featured soloist.  She has received first place and honorable mention ratings at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) state and regional vocal auditions and was a featured performer at the 2004 and 2006 Al Sears Jazz Festivals in Macomb.  She has also studied in Florence, Italy.

The Amelia Guthrie Fund for the Encouragement and Support of Promising Singers of Merit (established in 1999) provides a monetary honorarium to a promising singer every other year.  This honorarium helps to subsidize the singer’s voice studies including college tuition, private lessons with a voice teacher, and related expenses such as piano accompanists and repertoire coaching.
