New RSO Program Receives Support from the Community Foundation
by Press Release
The Rockford Symphony Orchestra (RSO) has been awarded a grant of $1,500 from the Donald V. and Britta A. Peterson Memorial Fund of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois.
According to RSO Education and Community Relations Director Lorie Langan, the grant will be used for an adult outreach program titled “Symphony 101.” The program is designed for clients at social service agencies including the Center for Sight and Hearing and Janet Wattles. Classes given at the agency site will introduce the symphony as a musical form, provide guided listening activities, and participants will discuss what happens at a symphony orchestra concert. Participants and their chaperones are given tickets to attend the final RSO concert of the 2008/09 season featuring a symphony voted on by the Rockford community as their choice.
The 7:30 p.m. concert on Saturday, April 24 is at the Coronado Performing Arts Center and will feature the Community Choice winner – Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2 also known as “The Little Russian.”
