Little Women at the Egyptian Theater

by Press Release

Annex Theatre Company’s production of Little Women—the Broadway Musical opens tonight at the Egyptian Theatre and runs through Sunday.

The production is the musical version of Little Women, which opened on Broadway in 2005. That production featured Sutton Foster as Jo March in a Tony Award-winning performance.

The musical is based on the book Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, one of the most beloved novels in American literature.

“We’re brining the book to life,” says director Lydia Daffenberg. “The music, the sets, the costumes—all of it is very exciting. Plus, being in the Egyptian is a wonderful place to present the show.”

The Annex production features two casts, each of whom will be performing twice. For the Thursday and Sunday shows, the March daughters are played by Christie Coran, Kiah Fischer, Alexis Thuli, and Oliva Doig.

For the Friday and Saturday performances, the daughters are played by Chloe Bluml, Ellen Conley, Heather Owens, and Emily Silver.

“It’s amazing how much goes into a production like this,” says co-director Dan Coran. “At the Egyptian, the sets have to be big and eye-catching. For example, the attic set alone is 22 feet wide by 12 feet tall, has over 480 planks in it, and 1,900 nails.”

The play’s message is empowering and meaningful for everyone, especially young women, notes Coran.

“The themes of the musical are timeless,” he adds. “Making the best of difficult times and not compromising on one’s dreams in life.”

Show times are 7:00 pm Thursday and Friday, 1:00 pm Saturday, and 2:00 pm Sunday. Tickets are for general seating, and are available at the box office one hour prior to curtain.
