Clark Plays Guitar Will Open For The Syn

by Press Release

March 30th, 2009, Rockford, IL – Rockford based band Clark Plays Guitar have earned themselves a lot of kudos over the years. Another notch will be put into their musical belt on May 13th when they open for Neo-progressive rock supergroup The Syn at Chubby Rain House of Tunes.

Clark Plays Guitar are in the process of finishing up their newest CD, but will be on hand on May 13th when The Syn play their Rockford area show. Combining hard rock guitar sounds with elements of classical music, progressive rock, blues, and even heavy metal, Clark Plays Guitar appeals to people who love powerful & yet melodic music.

“Clark Colborn’s fat and massively effected tone comes on like Godzilla, and it shifts between slinky, silky, scary, spiky, and searing. ...his brilliantly schizoid technical/primitive approach to the guitar is pretty exciting. In short, he rocks." Those words from Michael Molenda of Guitar Player Magazine show that Clark Plays Guitar may be local but they cast a musical shadow that is not content with residing only in the state line area.

The Syn are a neo-prog supergroup with a legendary history. They first formed in London in 1965 and the first incarnation of the band included Chris Squire who later went on to be a cofounder of Yes. Peter Banks (also an original member of Yes) played in the Syn in the 1960’s. The new millennium found The Syn reuniting and when they toured a few years ago the group featured Squire and Yes drummer Alan White along with Syn co-founder Steve Nardelli. Now the core lineup of the group is Nardelli, Francis Dunnery (It Bites, Robert Plant) and Tom Brislin (Meatloaf and keyboardist for Yes’ symphonic tour). The touring band also includes Brett Kull and Paul Ramsey of Echolyn.
