Music Director Steven Larsen and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra present the much-anticipated orchestral debut of 7-year-old pianist Emily Bear in a performance on March 28, 2009. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Coronado Performing Arts Center. This concert is part of the ComEd Classics Series and is sponsored by SwedishAmerican Hospital

 

The concert, featuring pieces created and played by youth, begins with Britten’s Simple Symphony, based on themes he wrote as a child. Next, Emily Bear joins the RSO to perform Mozart's charming Piano Concerto No. 23. On the second half of the concert, the orchestra plays Bizet's energetic and engaging Symphony in C. The concert concludes with a string scherzo by Mendelssohn.

To enhance the concert experience, the program notes are now available on-line. Patrons are also invited to attend the pre-concert lecture by Steven Larsen at 6:30 p.m. the night of the concert in the theatre.

 

The RSO is hosting a Prelude Dinner before the concert at 5:30 p.m. in the Coronado Theatre Rehearsal Room. The dinner includes appetizers, dinner including wine, and dessert. A cash bar is also available. Cost is $75 for adults and $25 for children. Call 815-965-0049 to make a reservation by March 23.

Under the artistic leadership of Music Director Steven Larsen, the Rockford Symphony Orchestra is a leading arts organization in the Rockford Region and the third largest symphony orchestra in the state of Illinois. The RSO is made up of 85 professional musicians who perform 17 concerts per year--including classics, pops, ballet, and opera--for an estimated annual audience of 30,000. The RSO was named the 2007 Orchestra of the Year for Illinois.
