The chorus of one of Blackmaker's songs may say, "You've tried everything you can think of, and I'm not impressed," but Blackmaker is coming to Rockford's Wing Ding, and I'll bet you will be impressed if you get to see them. In a music world dominated by pop stars, nu-metal, hip hop and emo it's refreshing to hear a band that's content to deliver their own blend of good solid hard rock. These guys have plenty of classic rock sound (ala the 1970's) but they bring to it a freshness and modern sound that makes them perfect for today's world.

The group doesn't have far to travel to make it to Rockford's 13th Annual Wing Ding since they hail from Chicago, but their journeys have taken them all over the place. That trek this time will be to The Rockford Speedway on May 28th to join seven other bands in providing entertainment to thrill the audience all day long. In addition to gigging with such international acts as Nickelback, The Smithereens, Chevelle and Caroline Spine, these guys gotten a lot of positive press and even won the Rollingstone.com/Jim Beam Rock Search Band of the Week and Band of the Month in 2002.

Their music is full of fiery guitar attacks and an all out musical assault, but that's only one part of the picture. Add in their strong song writing - so many hard edged bands forget that having a solid tune to build on is essential - and you'll more fully understand the band's sonic vision. You can hear samples of songs from their "Staggering to the Surface" album at their website, www.blackmaker.com to get a better grasp.

These guys will rock your world, so be sure to catch them at Wing Ding. Good food, cold suds and a lot of great bands - what more can you ask for? That's a pretty solid recipe for a great day. Blackmaker will be there, and you should too.
