Almost, Maine: Love During Frostbite Season

by Press Release

On a snowy winter night in a tiny town in Maine, the Northern Lights are shimmering in the sky and all the residents seem to falling in (or out) of love. In this frigid climate, the engine may take a while to warm up, but eventually the heat gets going just fine in this Midwinter Night’s Dream of a play.

The AE production features a quartet of actors who all play multiple roles: David Gingerich, Katie Maringer-Corirossi, Andrea Richardson, and Erik R. Uppling.

Tony-nominated actor John Cariani wrote the romantic comedy as a tribute to his own Maine home town, 500 miles north of Boston. "It's remote — I-95 ends 40 miles south of town. The sky is big. Lots of farms. Great people. Great, killer winters. Lots of space. There is a tiny branch of the University of Maine. Their slogan is 'North of Ordinary' and that pretty much sums up the town."

Come spend some time in Almost, Maine where the blue collar residents mostly hold down jobs at the mill, like to hoist a few beers at the Moose Paddy, race snowmobiles and fall hopelessly and hilariously in love.

Almost, Maine runs in the Cheek Theatre at Rockford College, November 30 – December 16.

Performance are Thursdays at 7:30, Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 4 and 8 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm.

Tickets are $26, $24 for seniors and $10 for students. However, AE’s newly added Discount Thursdays feature tickets for $20, $18 for seniors.

For tickets, call the AE box office, 815-394-5004 or visit the web site at www.artistsensemble.org.

Artists’ Ensemble is an Equity professional theater performing in residence at Rockford College.
